Metropolitan Community College

Tyjaun Lee became President of the Metropolitan Community College – Penn Valley campus in Kansas City in 2017 where she oversees all campus operations. In July 2018, her role expanded as she also became President of the Maple Woods campus when the Metropolitan Community College moved to a regional President’s model. Her leadership is already leaving an impressionable impact with enrollment increasing since her tenure has President began.

Dr. Lee’s appreciation for higher education is also evident in her own academic journey. She holds three degrees from Ohio University: a Bachelor’s degree in Specialized Studies; a Master’s degree in Education and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Leadership with an Emphasis in Higher Education Admin-istration.
With a commitment to student success, Dr. Lee embodies the mission of MCC. She leads by example and uses creative approaches to advance the College’s vision. Dr. Lee led the creation of the Middle College Program. The Middle College Program is a partnership between Kansas City Public Schools and the Full Employment Council.

Active on campus and in the community, Dr. Lee serves on many community councils and civic boards. Most recently, she joined the National Congress of Black Women in Greater Kansas City. She is a Board member of the Urban Rangers Corp of Greater Kansas City. She is a past member of the American Associ-ation of Community College’s Pathways Commission. Her involvement on this Commission she provided recommendations on how to improve Pathways model across the county. She is on the Platt County Board, Platt County Public policy and Northland Chamber of Education committee.

Dr. Tyjaun Lee is a role model, mentor and leader to staff, faculty and students. Her leadership spans from the college campus to the general community.
